Intaglio Etchings
The etching process has not changed in hundreds of years. I get great satisfaction creating my plates totally by hand. Once the image is drawn, it is chemically etched with acid. I love creating a variety of line and texture in the metal. The completed plate is inked by hand; no two are ever inked exactly alike. The 100% cotton paper is soaked in a water bath waiting to be printed. I hand mix my inks and place the plate face up on an etching press. The moment of truth, the paper is then hand pulled from the plate - A hand pulled Print. The very first ones are Artist Proofs signed A/P title and my signature.
Oil Paintings
My oils are a collection of what I am feeling at any point in time. I can not always get out on location. Still lifes and florals are always available. A walk down the street for a coffee break with a sketch book can provide any amount of information for the next image. I am always facinated that artist can take a two dimentional surface and create a space to travel into. I like to move into my paintings. It can be a local landscape or can I reach in and touch a few pears?
